KYC and Verification

Why We Verify Your Identity

At Spinko, maintaining a secure, fair, and responsible gaming environment is paramount. We are legally obligated to verify the identity of our players. This process, known as Know Your Customer or KYC, is a fundamental requirement imposed by our licensing authority and international anti-money laundering (AML) regulations. Identity verification protects you, our platform, and the wider financial system from fraud, underage gambling, and financial crime. By confirming your identity, we ensure that funds are handled legitimately, payouts reach the correct individual, and our services are not exploited for illicit activities.

Our commitment extends beyond mere compliance. We aim to build a trustworthy relationship with every player, ensuring that Spinko remains a safe and enjoyable place to play. This verification process is a cornerstone of that commitment, safeguarding your account and promoting responsible gaming practices.

What KYC (Know Your Customer) Means

KYC, or Know Your Customer, refers to the mandatory process of identifying and verifying the identity of our customers. This involves collecting and reviewing specific documentation and information about you. The primary goals of KYC are to prevent identity theft, financial fraud, money laundering, and terrorist financing. It also ensures that we comply with age restrictions and responsible gaming policies.

For Spinko, KYC is an ongoing process, not a one-time event. While initial verification occurs early in your customer journey, we may conduct further checks periodically or when certain triggers arise, such as large transactions or changes in account activity. This continuous monitoring helps us maintain the integrity of our platform and protect all users.

When Verification Is Required

Identity verification is typically initiated at several key stages during your interaction with Spinko:

  • Upon Registration: Basic information provided during account creation is cross-referenced, and initial checks may be performed.
  • Before Your First Withdrawal: To comply with AML regulations and ensure funds are returned to the rightful owner, full identity verification is usually required before your first withdrawal.
  • When Reaching Specific Deposit or Withdrawal Thresholds: Our licensing authority mandates enhanced verification once cumulative deposits or withdrawals exceed certain monetary limits. These thresholds are in place to mitigate financial crime risks.
  • During Periodic Reviews: We conduct routine checks on existing accounts to ensure the information we hold remains accurate and up-to-date.
  • If Account Activity Appears Unusual: Any activity deemed inconsistent with normal usage patterns, or indicative of potential fraud or money laundering, will trigger an immediate verification request.
  • Following Changes to Personal Information: If you update your name, address, or other key personal details, we will require re-verification to confirm the changes.

Documents You May Be Asked to Provide

To complete the verification process, Spinko typically requests specific documents. These are categorised into proof of identity, proof of address, and sometimes proof of payment method. All documents must be clear, valid, and show all relevant details without obstruction. We generally require colour copies, not black and white. Please ensure that the documents are not expired.

The exact combination of documents requested may vary depending on your jurisdiction, the information we already hold, and the nature of the transaction or activity that triggered the verification.

Proof of Identity

To confirm your identity, we require a valid, government-issued photographic identification document. This document must clearly show your full name, date of birth, photograph, signature (if applicable), and the document's expiry date.

Accepted forms of proof of identity include:

  • Passport: A clear, full-page scan or photograph of the data page.
  • National Identity Card: A clear scan or photograph of both the front and back of the card.
  • Driver's Licence: A clear scan or photograph of both the front and back of the licence.

The document must be current and not expired. We cannot accept temporary or provisional documents in most cases.

Proof of Address

To verify your residential address, we require a document issued within the last three months that clearly displays your full name, your current residential address, and the issue date. The document must be from an independent third party.

Accepted forms of proof of address include:

  • Utility Bill: Such as electricity, gas, water, or landline phone bill. Mobile phone bills are generally not accepted.
  • Bank Statement: A statement from a recognised financial institution.
  • Credit Card Statement: A statement from a recognised financial institution.
  • Government-Issued Correspondence: For example, a tax statement.

Please ensure that the entire document is visible, including the issuer's logo and all relevant details. PO Box addresses are not accepted as proof of residence.

Payment Method Verification

To ensure the security of your transactions and prevent fraud, we may also require verification of the payment methods used on your Spinko account. This confirms that you are the legitimate owner of the funds being deposited or withdrawn.

  • Credit/Debit Cards: We may request a clear photo of the front and back of the card. For security, please obscure the middle six digits of the long card number on the front and the CVV/CVC code on the back. Your name, the first six and last four digits of the card number, and the expiry date must be visible.
  • E-Wallets (e.g., Skrill, Neteller, PayPal): A screenshot of your e-wallet account page showing your name, email address, and account ID may be required.
  • Bank Transfers: A copy of a bank statement or a screenshot of your online banking portal showing your name, account number, and recent transactions to or from Spinko may be requested.

The name on the payment method must match the name registered on your Spinko account. Third-party payments are strictly prohibited.

Source of Funds and Enhanced Due Diligence

In certain circumstances, particularly for larger transactions or when cumulative deposits and withdrawals reach significant levels, Spinko is legally obliged to request information regarding your Source of Funds (SoF) or Source of Wealth (SoW). This is part of our Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) procedures, designed to combat money laundering and comply with regulatory requirements.

This may involve providing documentation that explains the origin of the funds you use to gamble, or the origin of your overall wealth. Examples of such documentation could include:

  • Payslips or employment contracts.
  • Bank statements showing accumulated savings.
  • Proof of inheritance or trust funds.
  • Sale of property or business documents.
  • Dividend statements or investment portfolio statements.

We understand that providing such sensitive information requires trust. All information and documents provided for SoF/SoW verification are treated with the utmost confidentiality and are used solely for regulatory compliance purposes. Our team will guide you through this process if and when it becomes necessary.

The Verification Process and Timeframes

Once you submit your documents, our dedicated verification team will review them. We strive to process all verification requests as quickly and efficiently as possible. Typically, verification is completed within 24 to 72 hours, depending on the volume of requests and the clarity of the documents provided.

You will be notified via email or through your Spinko account messages once your documents have been reviewed and your account status has been updated. If further information or clearer documents are needed, we will contact you with specific instructions.

During the verification period, certain account functionalities, such as withdrawals, may be temporarily restricted until the process is successfully completed. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this essential security measure.

Keeping Your Documents Safe

Spinko employs robust security measures to protect your personal information and submitted documents. All data is transmitted securely using SSL encryption and stored on secure servers with strict access controls. We comply with all applicable data protection laws, including GDPR, ensuring your privacy is safeguarded.

Your documents are used solely for identity verification, regulatory compliance, and fraud prevention purposes. They are not shared with unauthorised third parties. For more detailed information on how we handle your personal data, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

Anti-Money Laundering Compliance

Spinko is fully committed to preventing money laundering and terrorist financing activities. Our KYC and verification procedures are integral to our comprehensive Anti-Money Laundering (AML) framework. We adhere to international AML standards and the requirements set by our licensing authority.

This commitment means we monitor transactions, report suspicious activities to relevant authorities, and implement stringent controls to ensure that our platform is not used for illicit purposes. Your cooperation in the verification process is vital to our ability to maintain a secure and compliant gaming environment, protecting both Spinko and its players from financial crime.

Age Verification and Protecting Minors

Gambling is strictly prohibited for individuals under the legal age of 18 (or the legal age of majority in your jurisdiction, if higher). Age verification is a critical component of our KYC process at Spinko. We utilise various methods to confirm that all our players meet the minimum age requirement.

Any account found to belong to a minor will be immediately closed, and any winnings confiscated. We take our responsibility to protect minors very seriously and encourage parents and guardians to use filtering software to prevent underage access to gambling sites.

If Verification Is Delayed or Unsuccessful

While we strive for quick verification, delays can occur. Common reasons for delays include:

  • Unclear or Incomplete Documents: Blurry photos, cut-off details, or missing pages will require re-submission.
  • Expired Documents: Identity documents must be current and valid.
  • Mismatching Information: Discrepancies between the information on your documents and your Spinko account details will cause delays.
  • High Volume of Requests: During peak times, processing may take slightly longer.

If your verification is unsuccessful, we will inform you of the specific reasons and provide guidance on how to rectify the issue. In some rare cases, if we are unable to verify your identity to our satisfaction or if suspicious activity is detected, we may be required to suspend or close your account. Our aim is always to work with you to complete the process successfully.
